We Are Farmers
It's been more than six months since Rodrigo Saca passed away from pneumonia, and what the medical profession said was COVID. He was only 49. We still miss him. This is why I haven't written a blog for a while. A lot has happened since my last blog in April 2021. Our farm is thriving. We have a donkey, sheep, turkey, chickens, ducks, pigs, dogs, cats, etc. From Canada, Janice and Myles MacEachern live on our farm and do a great job of making sure our farm stays productive. We also have greenhouses that grow fresh produce.
At 57 years old, I am a university student at Oregon State University (OSU) based in Corvallis, Oregon (ecampus). I am a junior, and my major is Liberal Studies B.A. (with an emphasis on Liberal Studies) with a minor in Asian Languages (Japanese). My goal is to graduate in the summer of 2023. I completed the Fall 2021 quarter.
Kobe hopes to receive his GED this month (Thursday, December 10) in San Jose, Costa Rica. He and I will be taking the JLPT N5 (Japanese Language and Proficiency Test) in Quito, Ecuador, this month (Sunday, December 5). Kobe is 19 years old (Twenty on March 19, 2022). He is interested in entering the computer field. I hold virtual dance parties on Zoom whenever anyone is interested in dancing with me, an average of twice a week for one-and-half hours. My food podcasts are available on Facebook, Soundcloud, and YouTube. Kobe and I dance together once a month. These videos are also available on Facebook and YouTube.
Randy plays music and oversees the work done on our farm. The MacEachern's and our workers take good care of our farm. Randy also plays guitar and sings.
It has been raining here lately, making everything so green and beautiful. Our house and farm are our sanctuaries, especially when a new variant of COVID emerges. Kobe and I are still taking Japanese classes online with Live Lingua. We are hoping to visit Japan in March 2022. May the borders be open by this time. Randy is having another trip around the sun this month. There will be a small party for his birthday, and our friends will share his birthday and have a birthday near his. Our house is in Puente Europa, Azuay, Ecuador and our farm is in Guachapala, Azuay, Ecuador (Guallabuzho). Our house and farm are around seven miles apart. We now have a new car, so it's easier to get around. Randy and I have breakfast at Sunrise Cafe near Cuenca on Sunday mornings. Kobe joins us sometimes. Now there is a Supermaxi Supermarket closer to us in the town of Challuabamba. On Tuesdays, we have lunch on the farm with the MacEachern's. Kobe sometimes joins us for lunch. We enjoy eating at Covel Restaurant (their lunches [almuerzos]) on Thursdays. OOn my 58th birthday (January 30, 2022), Randy and I will be visiting Monglaralto and Montañita, Santa Elena, Ecuador (the coast-Pacific Ocean). Life is good!
