Kobe's 18th Birthday
Yes, Kobe is 18 years old TODAY! He is taking adulthood in stride. What Kobe did today was make Chocolate Chip Cookie Brownies and sleep. I love that he celebrated his birthday his way.
In some parts of the world, it is the first day of spring. It is the earliest spring in at least 100 years. Where we live, it is a perpetual spring (Azuay Province).
The only downside to his birthday is this Coronavirus Crisis. Ecuador is on complete lockdown for a while. I was able to have our friend, Rodrigo Saca, take me to the supermarket (Supermaxi) in Cuenca. We went to the Supermaxi near Mall Del Rio (Don Bosco) first around 11:00 am. There was already a line forming. The decision we made was to go to the Supermaxi near Feria Libre (Las Americas) at 11: 30 am. Luckily, there was no line. We wore our masks and were asked to have our hands cleaned with hand sanitizer. The store was crowded but there was still lots of food and other supplies. An hour later I bought the groceries. A line was forming outside the store. The roads were not crowded so getting to and from home was a breeze.
This will be a milestone birthday that Kobe will never forget. Kobe is 6'3" tall and around 160 pounds. Size fifteen shoes. We think he is still growing. Tall, slender, handsome. I am appreciative of him for allowing me to take pictures of him on his birthday.
May this Coronavirus Crisis end as soon as possible. When it does end, we are going to Manglaralto near Montañita...also known as "The Point". We enjoy staying at Balsa House Hostel. It's our vacation home.
Mail Delivery is still in effect but delayed. Only essential businesses are open: grocery stores, hospitals, pharmacies, doctors' offices, etc. Schools, colleges, and universities are closed.
Kobe posing for pictures on his 18th birthday. It is great that he has no desire to drink, smoke, or take drugs. He is in no hurry to learn how to drive or to get a car...which is OK with us. Day #2 of lockdown on his birthday. He is in 12th grade (high school senior) and homeschooled.
